Planning your dream wedding in London? One of the most important investments you'll make is in your wedding photography. After all, while the flowers will fade and the cake will be eaten, your wedding photos will last a lifetime. But what should you expect to pay for full-day wedding photography coverage in London?
What's the Average Cost?
The average cost for full-day wedding photography in London typically ranges between £1,800 and £2,100, with prices extending from £1,000 to £4,000+ depending on the photographer's experience, reputation, and what's included in your package.
According to recent market surveys, London couples spend approximately £1,890 on average for wedding photography, which is notably higher than the UK national average of £1,400-£1,600. This premium reflects the capital's higher living costs, increased demand, and concentration of highly specialized photographers.

How to Get the Best Value for Your Budget
1. Book During Off-Peak Season
Consider getting married between November and March when photographers often offer more competitive rates. Planning your wedding strategically can save you 10-30% on photography costs.
2. Choose a Weekday Wedding
Tuesday through Thursday weddings can be significantly more affordable, with many photographers offering 15-25% discounts for weekday bookings.
3. Optimize Your Coverage Hours
Not every wedding needs 12-hour coverage. Discuss your timeline with your photographer to find the perfect balance. A well-planned 8-hour package might capture everything you need.
4. Consider Photographers Based Outside Central London
Quality photographers from surrounding areas often charge less than central London rates while still delivering exceptional results. Cameraboss travels throughout the UK and offers competitive pricing regardless of location.
5. Prioritize What Matters Most
If budget is tight, invest in quality photography over quantity. A skilled photographer shooting for 6 hours will deliver better results than an amateur for 12 hours.
Understanding the Investment
Wedding photography might seem expensive, but consider what you're actually paying for:
Equipment Investment
Professional photographers invest thousands in gear:
- Professional camera bodies: £1,600-£6,400 each (minimum 2-3 required)
- Professional lenses: £7,500+ for a complete set
- Backup equipment
- Lighting systems
- Editing software and computers
Time Beyond the Wedding Day
For every 8-hour wedding, photographers typically spend:
- 2-3 hours pre-wedding consultation and planning
- 8-10 hours on your wedding day
- 15-30 hours editing and retouching
- 2-4 hours for album design and delivery
- Additional time for backup and archiving
Total: 30-50+ hours of professional work per wedding
Professional Expertise
You're not just paying for someone to press a button. You're investing in:
- Years of technical training and experience
- Artistic vision and creativity
- Problem-solving abilities for challenging lighting conditions
- Discretion and professionalism
- Understanding of wedding timelines and flow
- Ability to work under pressure
- Backup plans for any situation
Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer
Before booking, ensure you ask:
- What's included in the package price?
- How many edited images will we receive?
- What's your backup plan if you're sick or equipment fails?
- Do you have insurance?
- When will we receive our photos?
- What's your payment schedule?
- Can we see a full wedding gallery, not just highlights?
- What are your overtime rates?
- Do we retain full printing rights?
- What happens if we need to reschedule?

Making Your Final Decision
When choosing your wedding photographer in London, remember that the cheapest option isn't always the best value, and the most expensive doesn't guarantee perfect results. Look for:
- Consistent quality across complete galleries, not just highlights
- A style that resonates with your vision
- Professional communication and reliability
- Positive recent reviews from real couples
- Clear, transparent pricing with no hidden fees
- Personal connection – you'll spend your entire wedding day with this person
Your wedding photos are an investment that increases in value over time. While the flowers will wilt and the cake will be eaten, your photographs will preserve the emotions, relationships, and moments that made your day special for generations to come.
