Choose a wedding photographer for your venue
Start with the area where you will marry
How to find a photographer for your wedding location
Search using the town or venue where you will marry, then check whether the photographer can cover your date and itinerary. The place where you live may be different from the wedding location. Give the ceremony and reception addresses when enquiring so the conversation is about the journey you will actually make.
Look through complete wedding galleries before making a shortlist. Compare how each photographer handles indoor ceremonies, family groups and evening receptions as well as the portraits that first caught your eye. Ask who would photograph your wedding and whether the work you are viewing represents their approach.
Use proximity as a practical question: where would the photographer travel from for your date, how will they reach the venue and what travel needs to be agreed? Then weigh the answers alongside their photographs and the proposed coverage. A nearby search result alone does not confirm availability or suitability.

Questions to settle before you choose
Ask your venue about arrival instructions, parking, photography restrictions and access to the places you hope to use for portraits. Pass those details to the photographer before booking a plan around them. If you have several venues, discuss each address rather than only naming the nearest town.
Give the photographer the ceremony time and the likely reception schedule. Discuss the journey between them, including where group photographs and couple portraits could fit. Ask which events the proposed coverage would reach and what would need to change if the timetable moves.
Before you decide, confirm the name of the photographer, the date and locations they have quoted for, and the photography scope. Keep the answers with the quote so you can compare proposals on the same basis. The location articles below can help you prepare venue questions; check the arrangements with each venue.
