Wedding photography prices in the UK can be difficult to compare. A £2,400 quote and an £850 quote may look similar until you read the coverage details. I have been sending these quotes for years, and explaining the work behind them matters. For 2026, start with regional prices, then compare the hours and deliverables in each package.
UK wedding photography prices in 2026
The national full-day average is around £1,813 in 2026, with many packages between £1,600 and £2,500. That gives you a starting range, but your own quote will depend on the coverage, location and photographer.
London full-day coverage averages about £2,813, roughly 55% above the national figure used in that comparison. Yorkshire is around £1,247 and Scotland £1,540. Midlands quotes commonly fall between £1,250 and £2,000. Local overheads and demand can change the price even when the skill and coverage hours are similar.
Under £900 may cover a shorter day or work from a photographer building a portfolio. £1,000 to £1,800 commonly buys six to eight hours with an edited gallery. Above £2,000, packages may include full-day coverage, a second shooter, album or pre-wedding session; some also include video. Check the actual inclusions at each price.
Photography is often budgeted at 10% to 15% of the wedding total. For a £20,000 wedding, that gives a starting range of £2,000 to £3,000. Use it to compare your priorities with the quotes, then adjust the amount around the coverage you want.
The work behind the fee
A fee covers about a week's work, which can be spread over four months of planning, photography and delivery. Only part of that work happens on the wedding day.
A ten-hour wedding can produce 3,000 to 5,000 raw frames. Selecting the 500 or 600 images for delivery can take 20 to 30 hours before colour grading. Retouching, album design and client communication follow, along with second and third backups. Those copies help protect the work if a card or drive fails.
The equipment budget includes two camera bodies for backup, three or four fast lenses, flashes and enough batteries and cards for twelve hours without mains power. A kit can cost £8,000 to £12,000. Shutters wear and bodies may be replaced every three or four years, so equipment is an ongoing business cost.
Public liability and professional indemnity insurance are required by many venues. Travel, accommodation for early starts and software subscriptions add further costs, along with accounting and tax. Photographing 25 weddings at £2,000 creates £50,000 of turnover; the amount left after expenses depends on the photographer's business.

Checking the differences between packages
A £900 quote can be suitable if it includes what you need. Compare its coverage and safeguards with the higher quote before deciding whether the saving works for your day.
Check these details alongside the photographs:
- Hours. Six hours may finish before the first dance. Confirm whether the evening reception is included if that is an important part of the coverage for your family.
- Second shooter. One photographer cannot cover getting-ready in two places at once. A second can also photograph a different ceremony angle or a close reaction while the first follows the couple.
- Backup equipment. Ask whether there is a second body ready to use if a camera fails at 2pm.
- Delivery. Agree the gallery and other delivery dates in writing before booking. For CameraBoss coverage, see current pricing and contact us about your plans.
- Insurance and a contract. Ask to see the insurance cover and read the written terms before committing.
Getting those five answers in writing makes the price gap easier to assess. You can then consider which photographer's style you prefer.
What changes the price
Four or five package decisions commonly affect the quote. Ask how the total changes if you adjust the parts you need least.
Coverage length is a major factor: moving from eight hours to twelve typically adds £300 to £600. A second shooter adds roughly £250 to £450. An album involves design as well as production; a properly bound 40-page fine art book can cost a few hundred pounds before the design work. Video needs its own equipment and editing time. Compare combined wedding photography and videography packages with separate bookings to find the actual saving. A half-price package should not be assumed.
Nigerian, Yoruba, Indian and Pakistani celebrations can include two ceremonies across two days, sometimes in two cities, with two full outfit changes and more than 300 guests. Explain that schedule when requesting quotes. An eight-hour package needs to state exactly which parts it covers.
Ceremony knowledge helps with planning the coverage. Knowing when the prostration precedes the family blessing, or where the bride enters during an engagement, gives the photographer time to choose a position. Our traditional and Nigerian ceremony work in Aworan shows this coverage.

Cameraboss pricing and coverage
I am a British-Nigerian luxury and documentary wedding photographer based in Leicester and London, named Creative Photographer of the Year at the Creative Industry Awards 2024. My quotes reflect the coverage and preparation involved, alongside the editing and delivery.
For our package details, see current pricing and contact us about your plans.
I pay close attention to exposure and grading for darker skin. Generic presets can leave brown skin looking muddy or grey, so I meter carefully on the day and work deliberately on colour in the edit. Look for that consistency when assessing galleries from a wedding party with similar complexions.
I travel across the UK, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield, Bristol, Nottingham and Derby. The areas I cover page explains travel arrangements. Include travel and accommodation in the comparison so you can assess the full quote.
Setting your photography budget
Set the overall wedding budget first. Taking 10% to 15% as an initial photography range can help you shortlist work you can afford, then adjust the range around the importance and coverage of the photographs.
Popular photographers often book twelve to eighteen months ahead. Saturdays between June and September can fill a year or more in advance. Starting in March for an August wedding leaves fewer options, so enquire early if you have a particular photographer or style in mind.
Ask to see a complete gallery from start to finish. It lets you judge groups and difficult 4pm light alongside the portfolio's strongest images. Browse full Cameraboss galleries with the same questions in mind, including which photographs you would want to revisit in forty years.
Check the ceremony paperwork too. GOV.UK’s marriage and civil partnership guidance explains notice periods and ceremony rules. Use the register office finder to find the office for your arrangements, then confirm what it can host.
Common questions
Q: Is £2,000 too much for a wedding photographer?A: It is slightly above the reported 2026 UK full-day average of £1,813 and within the common full-day price range. Compare the coverage and your total wedding budget before deciding whether it suits you.
Q: Why do some photographers charge under £1,000?A: The quote may cover fewer hours or images, omit a second shooter, or come from someone building a portfolio. Ask which applies, then compare the package contents with what you need.
Q: How much should I budget for wedding photography?A: An initial guide is 10% to 15% of your total wedding budget. For £20,000, that gives £2,000 to £3,000. Adjust it around your priorities and the coverage you want.
Q: Do wedding photographers charge extra for travel?A: Many charge beyond a set radius, and early starts far from their base may require accommodation. Ask for a fixed amount in the quote so you know the total before booking.
Q: How far in advance should we book?A: Allow twelve to eighteen months for a summer Saturday, or earlier for a particular photographer. Off-peak and weekday dates may have more availability and lower rates.
